The Pickle Queen and I are both having problems remembering things, probably due to our age. During our last checkups, our doctors told us that we are physically okay for our age and conditions, but that we might want to start writing things down to help us remember.
Later that night, while we were watching TV, I got up from my chair. ‘Want anything while I’m in the kitchen?’ I asked the PQ.
“Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?’ she asked. ‘Sure,’ I replied.
‘Don’t you think you should write it down so you can remember it?’ she asked me. ‘No, I can remember it.’ I answered.
‘Well, I’d like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?’ she added. I said, ‘I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.’
‘I’d also like whipped cream. I’m certain you’ll forget that. Write it down?’ she asks. By this time I was irritated and said, ‘I don’t need to write it down. I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream. I got it, for goodness sake!’
I gimped into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, I returned from the kitchen and handed the PQ a plate with bacon and eggs. She stared at the plate for a moment.
‘Where’s my toast?’ she asked me.
Keep your fork.
